The First Good Friday Good Idea: ukulelebands.xyz
I have looked at several Directories of musicians and entertainers. The sort where you might expect to find some of the fantastic professional and semi-professional ukulele bands and solo performers operating in the UK.
However, these directories include very few ukulele bands and performers. It is also not always easy to find them even when they are listed. You can browse some of these directories by “genre”, “instrument” or other categories. I did not find one where “ukulele” was an option.
Entertainment industry directories are also for professional musicians, who make all or much of their living this way. If most of the professional ukulele bands and performers are missing from these directories, it is obvious that you are not going to find the many semi-professional and “just for fun” ukulele bands and solo performers who are ready and willing to do gigs.
My aim is for the ukulelebands.xyz directory to be:
- free to be listed
- free to consult
- free of irritating in-line affiliate links, automated adverts (often irrelevant) and hideous pop-up advertising banners and the like
- free of adverts for “own brand” ukes of unknown or dubious provenance
- free for bands and solo performers to access other content of interest
Nothing is anything without an app these days, so I am having a think about that too.

Part of the inspiration for this site came from a lovely man known as “Uncle Raggy”, a musician in the USA.

I have a “I don’t have quite enough for all this …. “ fund at several stores close to where I live…. I was a musician for a long time…. I know what it feels like to count out 6 dollars in change …… and I remember having to leave something I needed on the counter because I was a half dollar short……. I don’t want anyone to ever feel like that ….. I know what embarrassed is ….. but humiliation….. that’s a new level of self abuse nobody should experience ….. I do what I can …. not charity in any way ….. it’s payment on a vow I took … and money well spent! Raggy
It had never occurred to me to do something like that. Then I found out about other ways to do something similar.
So, I will post information about that sort giving. Also about person-to-person giving, like PayPals free “Send to friends and family” service.
